Fred Tectonics

Frederic Frankel, a geologist for Chevron, recently sent us this awesome photo of himself atop a mountain in Nuevo Leon, Mexico. He's wearing his classic FRED Society tee-shirt.

Frederic was doing field work with collegues from Brazil and England when this photo was taken. "We were looking at the effects of salt tectonics on surrounding sediment deposition," Frederic recalls. "There are excellent outcropings of tilted beds in the area to help decipher the subsurface structures." Huh? We're not really sure what it alll means but one thing we do know, we're glad Frederic took the time to send us this memorable photo.

Where is Nuevo Leon? It's about an hour northeast of Monterrey, Mexico (not far from Texas). Photo was taken on November 9, 2002.
