Fred Avoides the Dreaded 'Tourist Toe'!
Fred Gilson, long time member and supporter, sent us this photo from the shores of Tacloban, the capital of the Provice of Leyte in the Philippines. On this site, on October 20, 1944, General Douglas MacArthur, along with the Philippine and American Armed Forces, waded on shore to begin the liberation of the Philippines from the Japanese.
For picture taking purposes, many tourist remove their shoes and wade into the shallow pool surrounding the statues which commemorates MacArthur's landing, only to experience a fungus outbreak several days later. But our Fred knew better and avoided the dreaded 'tourist toe' by remaining on dry land.
